Community Partnerships

XBOT Robotics develops and maintains partnerships with other organizations in South Seattle who share our passion for STEM education and expanding opportunities for underserved youth.  Examples include:

FIRST Washington and Amazon - In partnership with FIRST Washington and the Amazon  Future Engineer (AFE) program, XBOT Robotics trained 40 Seattle Public Schools faculty and volunteers how to coach First Lego League (FLL) robotics teams.  This training supported the creation of 27 new FLL teams in Seattle area Title 1 schools during the 2019-2020 school year.

Franklin High School (FHS) - XBOT Robotics partnered with FHS to create a Makerspace in the high school’s library.  Team XBOT students volunteer in shifts at the Makerspace, helping other students learn programming, 3D printing, laser cutting and other STEM skills.  Approximately 800 students per year benefit from the FHS Makerspace.

Seattle Public Schools (SPS) - Utilizing a Technology Matching Grant from the City of Seattle, XBOT Robotics created 3D printing courses for students and SPS faculty.  The 3D printing course was delivered to groups of female students in grades 7-12.  SPS faculty teaching grades 8-12 completed 1-week “train the trainer” courses for which they received educator credits.  Faculty members were able to integrate the provided curriculum into their classroom and after-school activities.

City of Seattle - Utilizing a Neighborhood Matching Grant from the City of Seattle, XBOT Robotics was able to provide 60 elementary school students with 3D printing workshops in the Beacon Hill branch of the Seattle Public Library.

Outreach Events

XBOT Robotics participates in a broad range of outreach events aimed at inspiring youth to engage in STEM education programs and activities.  In most cases, students from our robotics competition teams bring robots to public events and demonstrate them in action.  Event participants also get to directly experience the thrill of driving the robots.  We routinely educate students and parents on robotics programs offered by FIRST Washington. Our demonstrations often expand beyond FIRST robotics to include 3D printing, computer vision, submersible robots, wind turbines and other subjects intended to appeal to a broader range of interests. Just a few of the events at which we have performed outreach activities include:

Storm into S.T.E.M. - XBOT Robotics has partnered with the WNBA team Seattle Storm and Microsoft for several years, demonstrating robots, wind turbines and 3D printing during a pre-game STEM showcases on the KeyArena concourse.

Alaska Airlines Aviation Day - Alaska Airlines invited several thousand local teens to view planes and exhibits, speak with aviation professionals, and learn about STEM careers. Team XBOT demonstrated our FIRST Robotics Competition and FIRST Tech Challenge robots for Aviation Day participants and encouraged them to become involved in STEM.

Boeing Family Day - Students from Team XBOT demonstrated FIRST competition robots at Boeing’s Renton 737 manufacturing facility. The students explained how the robots worked and answered questions on how Boeing employees and their families can get involved in robotics.

Women of AT&T GIFT (Girls in Future Technology) - Attendees were given the opportunity to drive Team XBOT competition robots and ask questions to the competition drive and robot build team members.
